This is the jury selecting process. Voir dire is a French word meaning “to see to speak”. It is the questioning of prospective jurors by attorneys and judges in court. Voir dire is used to determine if any juror is biased or prejudiced or cannot deal with the issues fairly, or if there is cause to not allow a juror to serve, such as knowledge of the facts of the case, acquaintanceship with one or more of the parties, witnesses or attorneys, an occupation which might lead to bias, or previous experiences such as having been sued in a similar case.
