Portland police officer in serious condition due to infection caused by pit-bull dog bite

The Oregonian reports that Portland police Officer Stephen Gandy, 33, is in serious condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center due to complications of a pit-bull dog attack.

According to the report, Gandy was attacked and bitten by a pit-bull dog when he was investigating a complaint at a suspected drug house on April 12. Gandy developed a serious infection after the bite and surgeons had to remove part of his upper right thigh. Doctors say Gandy developed a serious blood infection that is potentially fatally. According to the report, Gandy’s wife also contracted an infection but she did not require hospitalization.
