Police searching for SUV involved in Lakewood hit-and-run accident

Lakewood police are looking for the driver of an SUV that they say is responsible for hitting a pedestrian at South Tacoma Way and 34th Avenue South in Lakewood early Thursday morning and then leaving the accident scene.

The pedestrian was described as an adult male. He suffered serious injuries including a collapsed lung and foot fractures among other injuries and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said the driver of the SUV, described as possibly being a Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer, may have been driven by a Samoan woman with a man described as a “heavy set” Samoan male passenger.

Anyone with information or who can identify the dark-colored SUV is encouraged to call the the Lakewood police at (253) 830-5000 or the tip line at (253) 830-5064.

With the description of the vehicle and driver, it is likely that the police will locate the driver because the vehicle in question likely sustained damage.

Hit and Run is a Criminal Offense

A driver in an accident that causes injury or death is required by law to immediately stop their vehicle and seek help for the injured person. Providing assistance to the injured party is not necessarily considered liability for the accident.

Leaving the scene of an accident in Washington state is a serious criminal offense and can result in a class B or class C felony. If convicted, the driver faces fines and jail time.
