8 killed, others injured at California off-road truck race

The Los Angeles Times reports that at least eight people were killed and dozens were injured at an off-road truck race on a dry lake bed in Lucerne Valley, California.

According to a report, a driver in the race lost control of his off-roader and it went airborne, landing on spectators.

Six spectators were killed at the accident scene and two died at hospitals a short time later.

The race was described as 200-miles long and the drivers race around a 50-mile loop at speeds up to 60 mph.
