Tire slams into woman’s windshield in Tukwila Interstate 5 accident

A Normandy Park woman escaped serious injury when a tire came off a pickup truck, whipped across lanes of traffic and hit the windshield of the Honda the woman was driving on Interstate 5 in Tukwila this morning.

Luckily, the woman was able to maintain control of her car and pull it to the shoulder, averting what could have been a serious accident. The woman suffered minor injuries from glass.

According to a media release by the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred on I-5 at the Duwamish River curve around 9am.

The cause of the accident is currently being investigated but it is speculated that negligence on the part of the truck driver for failing to inspect equipment including tires, wheels and lug-nuts.

On May 24 a Bellevue couple also escaped serious injury in a “lost load” accident in which a dropped pick-ax went through the windshield of the couple’s Mercedes.
