Onalaska man killed in gun accident

The Lewis County sheriff’s department reports that Jeff Ault, a 43-year-old 2nd grade teacher at Onalaska Elementary School, was accidentally shot Monday afternoon while he was moving a 22 caliber rifle from a gun safe and it discharged. According to KOMO News of Seattle, Ault was shot in the abdomen and died before he could be taken to a hospital.

Onalaska is a community in southwest Washington approximately 45 miles south of the Capitol, Olympia, via Interstate 5.

This tragic accident appears to have happened because Ault did not follow a basic gun safety rule which is “ALWAYS keep guns unloaded until ready to use.”
