Boy accidentally killed in Newcastle driveway accident

A 5-year-old boy was accidentally killed in the driveway of his Newcastle home on Friday when his father accidentally struck him with his car.

According to a report in the Seattle PI, the father did not see the boy run behind his car and he will not be charged.

Driveway accidents are all too common. Within a 10 day period, a 17-month old toddler was injured in Wenatchee, a 3-year-old girl was killed in University Place and this accident occurred in Newcastle– all in Washington state.

In the U.S., there are approximately 100 children killed and thousands injured in driveway backover accidents. Parents, caregivers and all motorists need to be extra vigilant when backing out of driveways.
