Woman awarded $24K by arbitrator for sidewalk fall injuries

Paula Goldberg, 59, was awarded $24,000 from the city of Palo Alto, CA by an outside arbitrator for compensation for a hand injury sustained when she tripped and fell on buckling concrete on a city sidewalk.

Goldberg filed her negligence lawsuit against the city of Palo Alto in 2007 and it went into nonbinding arbitration in 2009 reports Palo Alto online.

Both the city and Goldberg accepted the terms of the settlement so a trial was avoided.
